I had been the news director of a Chicago radio station for 14 years when a company known as "cheap" bought us. A coworker had been told by a middle manager at "cheap company" that they usually get rid of all the people who had worked their a long time and replaced them with "cheap talent."<br />Sure enough, they did. We all got fired one, by one. When my turn came, I told my friends and prospective employers that I had been fired. They always asked, "What did you do to get fired?" I'd say, "Nothing." <br />I should have said "I won national and international awards," or " the morning show was consistently in the top ten in the demo." But no, I said, "I got fired."<br />People "get fired" in radio all the time. You don't have to steal from the company or come to work late all the time. It just happens.<br />In fact, my coworker was told that she was being fired because she "wasn't a big enough number 1."<br />Now that I have some distance from "the firing." I realize that using the f word can leave you scarred for life.<br />So "Mare," my free advice is this. Tell people you were "downsized," <br />"outsized," "laid off," or that you're taking "time off for a sabbatical."<br />But never never say the f word. It doesn't necessarily have anything to do with God specifically, but I think the way it calms down my mind helps me to be open to God's presence during the service.<BR/><BR/>Love #4. God loves us.
